7 Science-Backed Benefits of CBD Oil

CBD or Cannabidiol is a chemical compound found in hemp plants. CBD oil is often extracted from Cannabis sativa plant in the oil form and then mixed with an inert carrier like hemp oil to make it suitable for human consumption. Different types of CBD products commonly available include CBD tinctures, CBD edibles (gummies), CBD/CBG Herbal Tea, CBD Salve, and others. CBD interacts with neuroreceptors in the ECS (endocannabinoid system). The ECS is what sends signals to help regulate your mood, movement, homeostasis, and immune system.

Research on CBD use and its benefits is growing. In this blog, we will discuss some great ways CBD oil could benefit your health. These benefits have been suggested by the studies conducted on Cannabidiol Oil (CBD oil) and Cannabigerol Oil (CBG oil) until now.

OFFSET ANXIETY & DEPRESSION

The most popular ability of CBD is its calming effect. According to a study in the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry in 2017, 57 male subjects were tested for anxiety levels in a public speaking test. Some of the subjects received a placebo, while others received either 150mg, 300mg, or 600mg of CBD before their speeches. Subjects who received 300mg of CBD experienced lesser anxiety than those who received the placebo. On the other hand, participants who received 150mg or 600mg of CBD experienced more anxiety during the test than the 300mg group. This clearly shows that the right dosage of CBD oil can reduce anxiety and depression.

REDUCE PTSD SYMPTOMS

A small study was conducted in 2018 in the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine. In this study, 11 people with PTSD received CBD and routine psychiatric care for 8 weeks. 10 out of 11 people experienced decreased PTSD symptoms. Experts emphasize the importance of using therapy in tandem with any type of CBD for PTSD. Though CBD supports reduction in anxiety, therapy is recommended for PTSD.

TREAT OPIOID ADDICTION

Several preclinical and human clinical trials suggest that CBD and CBG could be used to treat people who are addicted to opioids. In one such study, researchers administered CBD to people addicted to heroin. Over a week, cue-induced cravings, resting heart rate, withdrawal anxiety, and salivary cortisol level symptoms were significantly reduced after CBD administration. Also, no serious adverse effects were found. In other studies, researchers found that CBD helps reduce different medical and psychiatric symptoms, such as insomnia, anxiety, and pain in patients with substance use disorders.

GIVE RELIEF FROM UNBEARABLE PAIN

CBD effectively treats chronic and non-cancer pain. In a recent study in 2020, researchers administered CBD topically to a group of people with symptomatic peripheral neuropathy while another group with the same conditions received a placebo. Results showed a significant reduction in symptoms like intense, sharp pains and cold and itchy sensations. These results were found in the people who used the topical CBD compared while those who used a placebo, they didn’t experience anything. No adverse side effects were reported. When introduced topically in full-spectrum CBD tinctures or salves, it doesn’t affect the systemic issue as it isn’t introduced directly into the bloodstream. Instead, topical CBD is more localized and treats pain in a specific area.

EASE DIABETIC COMPLICATIONS

In initial starter tests, CBD was found to reduce the effects of high glucose levels on the cells, leading to diabetes development and various complications. CBD was beneficial when used in patients with diabetic complications, diabetes, and plaque buildup in artery walls in detailed studies.

PROTECT AGAINST NEUROLOGICAL DISEASE

Several Preclinical and clinical studies have proved that CBD has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which can provide significant neuroprotection or protection against numerous pathological disorders. CBD has been found to produce beneficial effects against Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. More research is needed to confirm CBD’s benefits for treating Huntington’s disease and cerebral ischemia.

TREAT SELECT EPILEPSY SYNDROMES

In some instances, CBD can be used to treat epileptic seizures. In 2018, the FDA approved CBD to treat seizures from Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. These are two rare forms of epilepsy found in patients more than 2 years old. Several well-vetted studies were performed in which 516 patients with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome or Dravet syndrome received CBD (in a medicine form) or a placebo. When taken along with other prescribed medications, CBD decreased the frequency of seizures compared to those receiving placebo.
