Chemical Solvents

One of the biggest concerns regarding all carrier oils involves the use of chemical solvents. Hexane and other solvents are often used in commercially available plant oils, and traces of those chemicals can make it into the final product. It’s not only grape seed oil that you have to be cautious about; olive oil, hemp seed oil, and any other oil can be at risk. A scientific article from 2012 explores this. They conducted 15 studies and concluded that there is no evidence to support the belief that high amounts of Omega 6 linoleic acid (the acid present in grape seeds) contributes to inflammation or cardiovascular disease.

Regardless, a balanced diet is always a good idea. If you’d like to get more Omega 3s in your diet, try including seaweed, chia seeds, edamame, or walnuts into your routine. If you’d like to include more anti-inflammatory foods, start eating more kale, spinach, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, oranges, and tomatoes.
